Located on the shore of Robe Lake, only six miles from beautiful downtown Valdez, we are Valdez’s only private accommodations.  We are located on Lake House Rd. at mile marker 6 on the Richardson Highway.Valdez is the gateway to breathtaking Prince William Sound,  which offers some of the best fishing, sea kayaking, and wildlife and glacier viewing in the world.   Thompson Pass is only twelve miles in the other direction and undoubtedly offers the best skiing, snowboarding, and snowmachining in North America.  Also amazing Keystone Canyon offers incredible Whitewater rafting  and ice climbing right off the highway, and is only a ten minute drive from the Lodge on the way to Thompson Pass.Guests of the Lodge enjoy recreating on the lake year round.  From fishing, kayaking, boating, snowmobiling or snowmachining (as Alaskans call it), hunting , or sight seeing and wildlife viewing.  There is something for everyone!  Eagles, swans, loons, various ducks, and of coarse bear can often be seen and heard on or near the lake.  We have our own private docks and boat on the lake for members and their guests.Valdez is an outdoor recreation mecca.  We work with several local companies that offer various guided trips, tours, and charters for your enjoyment.  You can book a fresh or saltwater fishing trip for several species of fish including shark, halibut, cod, and various types of salmon, book a sea kayaking adventure in the sound, take a scenic flight right from the lodge, check out glaciers including the mighty Columbia and Worthington, rent a bike at The Bike Shop and cruise around town or travel up the old mining road into Mineral Creek Canyon.  Valdez also has several hiking trails for those looking to explore on foot. For those seeking a winter adventure Valdez is home to five Helicopter skiing companies.  The heli season starts around mid February and goes until the end of April.  Thompson Pass also has some of the most incredible snowmobiling in the world.  Several major film companies and professional athletes come to Valdez each and every spring to film skiing, snowboarding, and snowmachining.  There is no other place in Alaska or the world for that matter that offers the diversity and accessibility that The Chugach Mountains do here.At less than half the cost of heli-sking for a week, you can stay with us and ski and ride most of the same runs that people are flying to.  With the new lighter, more powerful snowmobiles (snowmachines) that are out today, we can get you to some of the most spectacular terrain imaginable.  Add a single heli-drop to your sled-ski/board package and combine the best of both worlds.Snowmobile Guided Trips and ToursGuided Big Mountain Sled-ski/boardingRide the ChugachExplore the Chugach near Valdez and Thompson Pass with local guides who live here all winter long.  Learn the area like no one else can, and go to zones and experience sled sking and boarding that only the locals can take you to.  Whether you are just looking to explore the vast glaciers and amazing peaks of the chugach on your snowmachine (snowmobile), or you use your 2 stroke (or 4) as your own personal “heli” to get your turns, we are the authority in Valdez and Thompson Pass.  Grey days, “down days” are non-existent.  We will go to areas that even few to no locals hit up even in the worst weather there is pow to tear up in the trees, pillows to drop, or glades to explore.Something for EveryoneWe offer a variety of ridingexperiences for all ages and skill levels.Valdez has an amazing trail systemsurrounding the entire Valley.Valdez Glacier, Robe Lake,Hogback, CMRC (future Ski Area),Sugarloaf, Solomon Gulch and Lake, Alaska Pipeline Corridor, Old Valdez Town Site, and Mineral Creek.  Most of these areas can be ridden to directly from the lodge and offersome of the most scenic views of theValdez port and surrounding mountains. If mountain riding is more your thing there is no place on earth with more amazing peaks and glaciers so easily accessed.  Unload your machine and hit the hill.  Use your fuel to ride in the mountains, not getting to them.  The Richardson Highway and Thompson Pass wind through the Chugach and allows direct access to the goods.  Wake up and ride from the lodge and hit Hogback Mountain directly behind the Lodge or Solomon Gulch “Area 51” across the bay.  Both offer great terrain and features to test your skills on your sled or your boards.Guiding and GearAt Robe Lake Lodge you can ride with locals who not only know and play in the mountains all year long but hold Avalanche II or III certifications and WFR, OEC, EMT or other medical certifications, have been trained in rope skills and crevasse rescue, and are involved in the community.  Some are members of the Valdez Search and Rescue, Civil Air Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Alaska Avalanche Information Center.  We are continuously educating our guests and clients on Avalanche Safety and Hazard, the dangers of traveling in glaciated and mountainous terrain, and many other things while we are out there.  Prior to heading out everyone will have and know how to use the proper safety gear.  If you have your own transceiver, pack, probe, and shovel you are welcome to use them but still must demonstrate your ability to use them in an emergency situation.  Transceiver....put it on, turn it on.  Pack must be worn on your person....not on your sled.
